Welcome to our website. We have been gardening in the foothills of the Scottish Grampian Mountains, in Angus, since 1987, and are situated about half-way between Dundee and Aberdeen. It is essentially a very exposed site, but we have a windbreak of mature Sitka spruce which gives some shelter from the elements. Summers can be warm and windy, but winters may be extremely harsh and unforgiving, and the wind from the north usually brings snow which may lie for weeks! This will give you an idea of how tough the plants here have to be to survive, and many, indeed, flourish!!

We originally started our auricula collection with a gift voucher from a well-known nursery which sells fuchsias and auriculas. We sent for a few auriculas (we already grew many types of fuchsia!) that we liked the look of, and now our collection stands at 450 +!! They have taken over a quarter of the garden, and we have even built (ourselves) an open type of polyshed (well, it’s not quite a polytunnel, and it’s not a shed!!) which offers protection from the worst of the weather! The auriculas have even taken over our collections of bamboo, daffodil (mainly dwarf), thyme and fuchsia! Picture (below) of our auriculas after the 1st year. You have been warned!!!

We have got to the stage where the garden is overflowing with special plants, we love them all and we’d like to share some of these with you, hence our website. Angusplants is a small nursery specializing in Primula auricula and other types of Primula. Our auriculas are available for sale all year, if you check the list on the home page for availability and then e-mail or phone us your order. We also grow the beautiful blue Himalayan poppy, Meconopsis, and the shade-loving Trillium and Hosta. These are in very small numbers so if you are interested please phone 01356 660280 at any time, or e-mail us. Garden open Sunday April 25th 2010 for & |
